The faces make this picture. The classic Sonic hubris and Luigi's disgruntled look just make me laugh. It's really perfect.

Art-wise, I seriously love the coloring. The vibrance of the hues and the use of gradient in the sky are well-chosen. I also like the texture effect you used for the road. It's that added touch that tops off a nice work of art.

Thanks for the comments! Personally, I think the colors in this piece are too vibrant now that I look back at them. However, this was one of my first times experimenting with background colors.

And far from it! Both franchises were built around colorful palettes and plain-old-fun over "realism" and complexity. The vivid colors suit both Sonic and Mario quite well.
