Hey guys! Just want to keep you guys updated on what I'm currently doing and what I have planned to do.
I'm still in the process of completing all the art I have due. I plan to finish two art trades first (which I hope, crossing my fingers, that I will have finished those by next Sunday). After that, I'll start working on commissions. I really appreciate your patience on those, guys! I know I shouldn't be feeling so pressured because of awesome commissioners like you, BUT I DO SO ANYWAY. When I start working on those next week, I'll try my best to crank out 3 or 4 a week. However, I don't guarantee that all this will be done so quickly, considering the fact I've got finals coming up in two weeks, along with a weekly day of hospital practice on this and next week. I also have to study like heck if I don't want to fail this quarter. Not to mention I have to complete a certain number of storyboards every week for my job. But I will try my hardest to get those drawings done and not have to let you wonderful people wait any longer!!!
Also, I've been juggling plenty of ideas for projects that I've talked about here and there, but I want you guys to know about all the potential projects I've been thinking about doing.
- First off, I want to open up a shop on either etsy or storenvy for art prints and original marker sketches. I've ordered a few supplies already to help me out with making decent traditional art, so this may come into fruition soon. I've gotta first come up with a few art pieces to sell as prints, and also draw up some good traditional stuff that'll catch peoples' attention.
- Second, I've been drawing characters and coming up with concepts for a potential video game idea I have. It'll be like a 2d platformer, but with plenty of interesting features like lock-on to enemies, co-op, and different characters to play as. I've gotta develop the visual style for this game further, but I'm certain I could design this whole thing by myself and provide the art. Now, what I CAN'T do is program and code. I also have yet to find a decent game engine that would easily support a game similar in design and concept to Rayman Origins/Legends, with a 2d art style and visuals. This isn't a priority right now, though. I'm more concentrated on getting to work on designing characters, enemies, bosses, worlds, the story, and plot. I've gotten some help with enemy designs already from some good pals of mine, but I've got plenty of things left to design.
-Third, I've stated how I've wanted to tackle the enormous project of making a Casey cartoon pilot. Now, after a lot of thought, I've decided that I'm going to treat it as a 7 or 8-minute cartoon. I personally can write the script, create the storyboards, and design the layouts for all the scenes. However, I'm not confident enough in my own animation skills (nor do I have the time to animate) to tackle the animation of this cartoon on my own. I'll also need voices for the characters. So when I have my parts done, I may make a casting call for animators, voice actors, and background artists. From how many people I cast into this project, I'll calculate the funds and also begin to start planning out how I'll save up these funds to make the cartoon. I may potentially launch a Kickstarter to fund this big project.
So yeah, I've got lots of things I wanna do! But one thing at a time! None of these project ideas are a priority right now. What matters most is graduating school, getting those commissions and trades done, and being productive in my freelance job.
Hope you guys have a good rest of the day!
-David
